End of module self evaluation

Evaluation

What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have used them/ applied them?

My skills have developed throughout this module, due to the amount of deadlines we have head I have become much better at organising my work so that I could organise my time around which deadline came first and next etc. Working on many projects has helped me apply skills across the projects. I have also been quite good at organising when I'm printing and booking print slots, Printing seemed to go quite well during this module.

What approaches to design production have you developed and how have they informed your design process?

I have managed to produce purely digital work in this module, which is not what I would have done at the beginning of the year,as my work was purely and rendered. I have enjoyed producing work which is all digital, and hope to continue with this in the future and on into next year.therefore my Illustrator skills have once again improved

What strengths can you identify in your work?

My work is has become much more digital since coming on the course and as a result i feel like I have learnt lots of new skills.  also feel like I have worked quite well with colour in the module, I think Mike's partner spread works well with the colours I have used and the speaking from experience brief also although the colours used were slightly feminine.

What weaknesses can you identify and how will you address them in the future?

I think I could have produced more work and improved the work i did produce if i had planned my time better, for example after the final crit on friday I found that there were a lot of spelling mistakes which could easily be fixed if i had just proof read them, as well as the colours in sue which could have been changed if i had asked at an earlier stage. I also felt that my partner spread didn't fully represent Mike fully as i based it purely on skateboarding, and although this is one of mike's hobbies there were lots of other things which i think i could have produced good imagery for.

Identify 5 things which you would improve or do differently if you were to do them again

1. Produce more development and design sheets as well as do more experimentation on illustrator before starting the final product.
2. Organise a print slot earlier so that if there are any changes which need to be made I can do so
3. be more experimental when designing, produce designs which are unusual and something which I have never done before
4. organise my time better.
When printing prepare everything before going to the digital dudgeon

How would you grade yourself?
Attendance 4
Punctuality 4
Motivation  2
Commitment 3
Quantity od work produced 2
Quality of work produced 2
Contribution to the group 3

Final Crit Feedback

From this crit I found that there were some things which needed improving before the deadline, one thing which needed changing was that there were several spelling mistakes, I will be able to change them before the dealing and that it was missing day 1-5 which was a printing error. Another thing which came up was the colour scheme and pattern. People said they liked the patterns but thought they could have been relevant to the dish being explained. people also thought that the colour scheme was slightly feminine, so if I were to do it again I would change the colours to more neutral colours so that the Calendar/Meal plan would cater for both male and female.

One of the things which was pointed out was spelling mistakes in the introduction about how to use the calendar, here is what it looked like before and after the changes were made.

Double page partner project

I began by creating a logo name for Mike which could be placed as a vocal point for my double page spread, I have used a pattern as one of the things mike said he liked was patterns. I have also used a duck egg Blue as my background as that is Mike's favourite colour.

After experimenting with colours and designs I gathered some photo's of skateboarding, I have kept the photo's in black and white as I didn't want to the spread to look too overdone and busy. Originally I was going to use Black but it looked to harsh and so I settled for Grey. I have kept the colours simple and only  three colours were used excluding white.

Pattern development

Pattern 1 Cutlery
I started by creating these patterns of knives and fork and spoons, I wanted them to look quite simple as they were going to be repeated several times. After experimenting  with different colours and added them all together so they would work repetitively in a line.

I then changed the background colour from white in order to chooses the on which worked best with the colours i choose for the knives and forks.
This is the final design for the pattern for week one.

Pattern 2 Pasta
I Begun once again by creating pasta shapes in illustrator, with the pen tool, I then placed them into a pattern and added a  background to them. The colours i used are all quite light as I didn't want them to  make the recipe type illegible on the tracing paper.

This is the final design for pattern 2 which will be used throughout week 2 of the book.
Pattern 3 Pineapples
I created this pattern in the same way as the other 2, I think this is my favourite pattern out of them all.

Final Pattern
Pattern 4 Chillies
Once again i created this pattern by creating shapes and making them into repetitive patterns. this is the least successful pattern out of them all.
