LOOVVOOL is a branding agency for lifestyle and luxury businesses based in Hong Kong. I was particularly drawn the branding for Bendis Financial. I have chosen to look at this Branding company as it is branding for A Finance company, I Think it look s modern, clean and fresh. The colours used aren't to garnish and the patterns are contemporary and sleek, they look very stylish and shout wealth and money.

Screen Printing My Promo Packs

I decided that all of my promo packs would be screen printed, below is me screen printing them, I used this colour as I wanted them to be vibrant and stand out even on the brow paper which the envelopes are made out of, I also produce some small postcards to put in each envelope to say hello.

Starting my Branding

The Branding which I did last year really started to stand out to me as being really bad, too cluttered and a bit clumsy,  so I decided to readjust it so that it worked better with me as a designer. The old branding which i did last year was lots and lots of different colours, it had blue, light bleu, yellow and orange, all of which are great but together they look cluttered.

So instead of this i decided to simplify it down, making the pattern simple lines and the colour to just Pink/peach, After working at the Leeds print Festival i decided to screen print all of my Promotion Pack as i thought it would give it a more personal touch and represent me better as a designer as I am very into print.

This is the kind of stele which I have tried to keep throughout my personal branding. I like the way these colours came out, with a little orange and a little pink, creating a salmony peachy colour.

London Studio Visits

At the beginning of March I went down to london to go to studios and drop of a promotion pack with a Creative CV a cover letter and a link to my online portfolio. I decided to go to London as i think that is where i would like to go immediately after I finish Uni, Its is the heart of design in this country and therefore i think that is probably where the most jobs within the field are.

I really enjoyed going to London and walking the streets, as i am from the North Quirky graffiti and little shops like this are a slight novelty.

These are the studios which I went and gave my Promotion Pack to, some were ever to talk and other were a little busy, however most of them got back to me via email, complimenting me on my work. This studio is the Studio THEM DESIGN, I am very fond of the work they do and would love to vista again.

Below is my promotion pack with my business card, this is me trying to work out where to go after getting lost in Shoreditch,

Leeds Print Festival

This year I was involved in doing the print festival, Print is something which I have always been interested in but never really got involved with, so this year I thought I would. I didn't really know what to expect from the day, but though I would produce some work anyway to sell there. After doing some screen prints of some patterns which I created I then produced some business cards in order to give out to people who bought my prints. Over all I Spend £4.50 on printing and paper for the prints which I took to sell and i made a profit of £17 which was a lot higher than I thought. Although it isn't a huge amount, I was only expecting to sell a few, when i actually sold nearly all but 3 prints.

On the table we all have a small section to place our own work, everyone sold they stuff for different prices, everyone seemed to sell something which they took.

Alongside the fact we had a great opportunity to get out work out there and sell it, we also managed to speak to a variety of designers, such as DittoPress, Dust and Caroline Pratt.

After attending the print festival on the Saturday, I also went to the print talks on the sunday, I found them very interesting and inspiring. In the Print talks were Mr Bingo, Patrick Burgoyne, Pat Randle and Si Scott. All of which were Fabulous to listen too.

Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam

Whilst Visiting Amsterdam at the beguiling of April i visited the Modern Art gallery, I have really wanted to go here for a while, so when the opportunity was given i spend the whole day in here. The range of different kinds of design was inspiring, there was design from today and from 200 years ago.

This piece of design was on the wall as you entered the gallery , They were large scale installations and illustrations, all really inspiring as I am currently involved in the Murel design in Leeds college of art which is a large scale piece of illustration within one of the studios.

As well as all of the design which related directly to Graphic Design I was also hugely inspired by the other installations such as this one below, many of them by Product designers and architects. I particularly loved these bottles.

There were direct references to typography from Brockman to Carson, all of which were very interesting.

Collaborate Vinyl

A project done in collaboration with Emily James, A Vinyl Piece done in fluorescent green and placed onto Large glass windows in a Design studio within the Leeds Collage of Art Facility. This piece of Typography aims to spur on creativity by injecting positive encouraging statements into everyday life.

Beth Hayden Collaboration

Myself and Beth Hayden worked collaboratively together on the Dr Me flag brief, We specifically asked to be put together for this brief as we had an idea for it as soon as it was pitched to the class. The brief was to create a flag with specific dimensions, The flag was based on a lyric from one of  The Nationals songs. The lyric itself is about someone being in a state of depression, we wanted it to contrast the feel of the flag so we decided to use imagery of flowers, something which is often looked upon very positively and is always seen as something which improves someones mood.
Me and beth have worked very well together both setting jobs for ourselves to do individually as well as together.

Overall I was very pleased with the outcome we came up with, it is something which i will defiantly be adding to my portfolio, I would also definatl collaborate with beth again, I think we worked productively and quickly together.

Harvey Nichols Collaboration with Wool Week

After me and Emily James decided we were to create a due together we thought we had better get started as soon as possible, so when the Yorkshire wool Company came into Uni to pitch the brief for the Harvey Nichols In collaboration with Wool week, we accepted straight away. The brief was to create a brochure which displays all of the work from all the designers involved, this brochure would be handed out at the even in the Harvey Nichols Store in October. The Though of producing such a vast brochure for such a big company in such a sort about of time was very daunting but we were both very excited by the thought of it, as we agreed it would be something great to put in our portfolios.

After Exchanging emails we came up with a final layout for the brochure along with appropriate Typefaces and the chosen Imagery for each designer. Me and Emily both found it difficult when it came to contact with the client as there were over 15 sets of changes to be made to the document, most of which were changes which were no fault of ours, but down to how the client changing their mind.

One Mistake which we made when approaching the design job was failing to discuss payment, At the start of the job we were told we would be paid by the client, and we had this in email confirmation, however as the job came to an end the client decided that they were no longer join to pay us and instead give us printing credits. This occurred because of a lack of communication on both sides, however I have defiantly benefited form this, in the sense that I have learnt in future to discuss payment in advance.

We both attended the Event at the Harvey Nichols store, It was overall a great experience working with and for the clients we did, and i think I have really gains an incite into what it is really like working in the industry, Hopefully next time we will be paid.

Above are some images from the final publican, this was printed and given out at the final Wool week in collaboration with harvey Nichols Event.

Emily James Collaboration (Brass)

Since the beginning of the year I have been involved in several collaborations, the most prominent one being that of brass With Emily James. We wanted to work together on several projects throughout the year in their year and so we decided to make a duo.

Me and Emily work well together as we have very similar interests and we both know each other very well. For example She knows I am not a morning person, and in know she doesn't work well after 6 on an evening, knowing each other well really gives us an advantage over other design duos and we know when to stop and when it is ok to power on. We wanted the branding to represent us as a team and how we  come as a pair.

"The concept for the name came from the idea of two independent elements coming together to create a completely different element. In this case we looked at the chemical compounds copper and Zinc and the reaction which occurs when the two are mixed, the result is Brass. This pack was designed in order to be sent to studios, it aims to help promote us as a collaborative team and help us to arrange studio visits & placements"
